Founded in 1978, with headquarters in the Old Hancock County Sheriff's Home and Jail, the Ellsworth Historical Society curates and safeguards the objects and stories of the city's history. Focusing on the people, written and oral history, buildings, industrial and domestic equipment and processes, personal items and keepsakes, diaries and public documents, and the land itself, the Society takes as its mission the telling of Ellsworth's story.
